PM Modi 'ahead of us', his visits need to be backed up with action on ground: Raghuram Rajan

Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan on Wednesday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as being "ahead of us" but said his visits abroad need to be backed up with "action on the ground".

"I think it is changing positively," he remarked on the world view of India in the aftermath of Modi's foreign visits.

He is a "very articulate spokesman for India", he added.

"What we need to do is back up his visits with action on the ground which reinforces the good impression that is created," Rajan told NDTV.
The RBI governor, who has often been seen as not toeing government line on the monetary policy and other issues, acknowledged Prime Minister's initiative to market India as an investment destination but said the message of a strong Indian economy has to be backed up with action on the ground.

India hits back at Pakistan for raising Kashmir at UN, says world knows LoC firing is to provide cover to terrorists

WASHINGTON: Bluntly calling Pakistan a "prime sponsor of terrorism," India on Wednesday asked Islamabad to vacate the part of Kashmir it has occupied, virtually laying down a new paradigm for any resolution of the issue.

"Pakistan is not primary victim of terrorism but of its own policies. It is in fact the prime sponsor of terrorism. Pakistan's instability arises from its breeding of terrorists. Blaming neighbors is not a solution," spokesman of India's ministry of external affairs Vikas Swarup said in a series of tweets on Wednesday.
